Embroidered Revival
The policy of integrating Jewish communities led by Ben-Gurion aimed to create a new Israeli culture. Over the years, the idea of the "melting pot" was replaced by a multicultural approach that allowed for the preservation of one's cultural heritage and its addition to the cultural mosaic in Israel. The project tells the stories of Jewish immigration to the Land of Israel through traditional embroidery that belongs to all ethnic communities. The book seeks to shed light on the cultural uniqueness of Israel and offers 120 new images as a preparatory foundation for traditional embroidery. The connections between the embroideries showcase, through trial and error, the multicultural approach—preserving past identities while combining them with the new Israeli complexity.
This is my final project at the department of Visual Communication at University of Haifa (formerly Wizo). Guidance by Nastya Faybish.
